Shoulder Pain

Shoulder pain, which is any pain around the shoulder, can occur frequently for various reasons. Most commonly, the cause of shoulder pain happens when the rotator cuff tendons are inflamed or damaged from injury or strenuous activities, such as lifting heavy objects or playing sports. Shoulder pain may also be caused by shoulder dislocation, bursitis, arthritis, overuse or injuries to the tendons in the arms, broken bones, or bone spurs. Other causes for shoulder pain may be attributed to what is called referred pain, when pain actually stems from a problem in another area, such as the neck or back.

Most occurrences of shoulder pain can be treated with rest, ice on the shoulder, and pain relief medication such as ibuprofen, which helps reduce inflammation and alleviate pain. For more severe shoulder pain, medical help should be sought to diagnose and treat the problem. Sharp and sudden pressure or pain in the shoulder can also indicate a heart attack, especially if accompanied by chest pain and dizziness or shortness of breath.

Diagnosis of shoulder pain usually requires a physical exam to prescribe the proper treatment. Premier Health Center is dedicated to diagnosing your shoulder pain so that we can begin an effective treatment plan customized to speed up your recovery. Contact us today for a consultation.
