Low Back Pain

Low back pain is a common occurrence for many people and one of the number one causes of job-related injuries. Some instances of lower back pain last only a few days or weeks. This is called short-term, or acute, lower back pain. Generally, acute lower back pain is due to mechanical issues—usually from strain on muscles or joints, or an injury while doing something strenuous like heavy lifting or playing sports. Symptoms are often tender or sore muscles, shooting pains, limited flexibility, and trouble standing or bending over. Acute lower back pain can often go away on its own, with rest and relaxation. Left untreated however, some acute lower back pain can develop into something more severe.

Chronic lower back pain is much more serious and should be treated as soon as possible. Lower back pain that persists for more than 3 months is considered chronic and requires attention from a health practitioner. Without proper diagnosis and treatment, chronic lower back pain can lead to other more extreme conditions and can even cause permanent damage.
