Electric Stimulation Therapy

Electric stimulation therapy makes use of electrical currents to ensure that a single muscle or group of ligaments will contract. Electrical stimulation uses what is known as a TENS unit. The physical therapist uses the TENS unit by placing electrodes on different parts of the skin to target the appropriate muscle fibers.

Electrical stimulation is good because it helps strengthen the affected muscles. There are different settings, which our physical therapists can change to create a vigorous or gentle muscle contraction. The contraction of the muscle also promotes blood circulation in the area that facilitates healing and increases muscle strength.
